An overview of some of the concepts that combine to make up TCP/IP and its operation. In particular focusing on IP addressing and its use in current IP scenarios.

 

IPv6 Alternatives

Looking at some of the measures that have been introduced to combat some of the problems that have arisen with the use of IPv4.

 

IPv6 - The need

Outlines the issues surrounding the need for a new IP addressing scheme. Looks at the shortage of IPv4 addresses, routing issues and some of the current weaknesses of the IP system.

 

IPv6 Addressing

Covers the format of the new addressing system, its goals and its address types. Also looks at how IPv6 addressing differs from IPv4 addressing.

Outlines the format of the IPv4 address header and compares it to the IPv6 address header. Compares some of the changes that have taken place between the two systems.
